Founder's Day 2006

Dear Sisters,

First we would like to draw your attention to the new e-mail address. Please add the new Presidents email address to your address books for all correspondence to the EAC Presidents Tessa Visser and Deborah Bronner-Westerduin. November has already been an eventful month with the EAC annual meeting in Stuttgart November 3-5 and the 132nd Founders' Day on November 9. Before we know it, Thanksgiving will be here!

We had a unique and memorable weekend. It was fun to meet new sisters, catch-up with old friends, and remind us of the reasons why we love Sigma Kappa, as well as the feeling of what makes the European Alumnae Chapter so special. Magi did a wonderful job with organization of the accommodation at Schlosshotel Monrepos, the relaxed dinner on Friday at "the Wichtel" pizza and microbrewery restaurant, and the memorable Founders' Day dinner at the Schloss. Many thanks also to Teri and Crystal for chauffeuring all of us around town the entire weekend!

At the business meeting, some key decisions were taken. A brief summary follows:

  • Greetings were read from Donna de Wick, EAC president and Barbara Wilmer, National President. (We missed Donna's attendance as she attended a close friend's wedding in the States. Gina Will presided over the meeting.)
  • Election of the following sisters to the respective offices:

Co-Presidents: Tessa Visser, Deborah Bronner-Westerduin
Vice President of Membership: Gina Wills
Vice President of Programming Continental Europe: Crystal White
Vice President of Programming United Kingdom: Donna de Wick
Vice President of Finance: Lynn Strebel-Catchpole
Recording Secretary: Nikki Camhout
Corresponding Secretary: Nikki Camhout
Alumnae Collegiate Relations Coordinator: Helen Chuah
Newsletter Editor: Magi Boogaard
Triangle Correspondent: Crystal White
Historian: Tana Richards
UK Panhellenic Delegates: Missy McCurry, Kelly Downing

  • Selection of Paris, "The City of Hearts", for the 10th anniversary meeting. Maria Rankine will be heading up the effort, with support from Donna de Wick. Nancy Herouard, our sister in France has offered to support the effort, as well. Maria will provide a detailed report to the chapter on the financial commitment and weekend events to celebrate our chapter's anniversary and Sigma Kappa founder's day.
  • The EAC recognition award for attendance of three annual meetings will be instituted beginning next year. The award will be retroactive.
  • The chapter adopted the motto, "Love Strongly". This motto was inspired by Maria Rankine.

Following the business meeting, Judith Goddard received the Pearl Court award for her dedication to Sigma Kappa and the EAC! In the past, her wonderful gifts to the chapter including a cross stitched crest, based on a pattern from 1972, and numerous gifts of artwork, such as the violet painting to commemorate our meeting in Compiegne, France in 2000 were just a few reasons why Judith deserved this special recognition.

As you can imagine, many photos were taken of the weekend! We would encourage those of you who took photos to send them to Tana Richards for inclusion in the scrapbook. Next, if you took photos using a digital camera, please upload these to the Sigma Kappa site on Photobox, a common site for our chapter photos.

Nikki Camhout prepared minutes of the meeting. If you would like a copy, please let us know.

We look forward to next year in Paris!
