I got Fox from a lady in the College Park area. She was the maid of a guy I worked with. Fox was a small iguana that had mites. Mites are very difficult to get rid of without hurting the iguana.
Fox is the only iguana that I've had that showed nest guarding behavior. She ran Dana off from the nest box in my bedroom. Even though Dana was much larger than she was.
One of Fox's eggs was the first to hatch. The baby named Curly was born on May 26, 1998. I was out of town at my Grandmother's (my dad's mother) funeral when Curly was born. Cat and Paul were pet sitting for me.
During the 1999 egging season she had to be spayed due to egg retention. She did not feel safe enough to lay her eggs. This was due to the fact that I had a new male, named Herman in the bedroom with her. After I thought she was going to lay, weeks passed. Finally she started to act depressed. She showed this by inactivity. I took her to the vet the next day and had her spayed. She had 29 eggs in her. None survived incubating. If you think about how developed iguana eggs are when they are laid. Usually the embryos will not survive turning and having her upsdie down on the operating table probably killed them all.
