Old Design

While my basic cages have changed somewhat, all my cages made of wood are very similar.  My dad built cages for the iguanas I had back in Junior High School.  This basic design was the basis for my beginning cage designs.

My first cage was built for George.  George's first cage was a rabbit cage with thin bars that I bought at the last minute from PetsMart.  After a couple of days, I came home from work and saw that George stuffed her head sideways through the bars. For the next few days she was a free roamer until I built her a cage.  The dimensions of the cage were 1' wide, 30" long (these 2 dimensions are the same as the width of the pan under the rabbit cage, 30" high.

Materials used:

The door opened down which was not a good thing since it makes it easy for the iguana to escape.

This cage was Fred's house for last summer and half of this summer.  However, for Fred this cage was laid on its side since for her height is not a good thing.

I took this cage apart this summer and repainted it.  This time I used Simpson Strong Ties to attach the corners.
