RAN RECOMMENDS :
Gasland
Directed by Josh Fox
The Polluters
Written by Ben Ross & Steven Amter
Whether you eat up pop culture like candy, or poo-poo it like Queen Elizabeth would a Pop Tart, you just can't avoid
the pomp and circumstance of the annual Academy Awards. Even at RAN, fingers are crossed on the 27th…for Gasland, of
course.
Ahhh, if only sticking it to corporate polluters were as popular as Natalie Portman and Colin Firth, our work spreading
the news would be sooooo much easier. Great idea! In the spirit of the recent Oscar nominations, we've picked our season's
top cause "celebs." And the nominees are...

The Fighter
The EPA has finally vetoed the permit for the Spruce No. 1 Mine--one of the largest mountaintop removal mines ever proposed
in Appalachia which was slated to destroy over 2,000 acres of temperate rainforest and bury more than seven miles of streams.
With your help, RAN and allies pressured the EPA to veto Spruce in every way we could, from writing letters to the editor
to dumping half a ton of Appalachian earth on the EPA’s front lawn. Looks like it all paid off.
The Kids Are Not Alright
In good news for Indonesia's rainforests, seven major children’s book publishers have committed to removing controversial
rainforest fiber from their books. Unfortunately, two major publishers have failed to sever their links to the destruction
of Indonesian rainforests—Disney Publishing and HarperCollins. Tell these companies that it's time to green their business
and make sure books aren’t helping to destroy endangered forests.
Waste Land
Regulators have just cleared the way for massively oversized oil refinery equipment to be hauled through some of America’s
most beautiful and remote wilderness up to the stripmined wasteland known as the Alberta tar sands. Support local Idaho residents
who want to keep these dangerous loads off their roads and out of their wildlife corridors.
Killing in the Name of Palm Oil
The land grab crisis in Indonesia is getting worse—with tragic consequences. Six unarmed farmers were recently
shot while harvesting palm oil fruit on their land. The farmers reportedly had an ongoing conflict with a subsidiary of infamous
rainforest-destroyer Sinar Mas, when they were attacked by the Indonesian National Police’s Mobile Brigade (Brimob).
You can do something about it.
