Tambar [weapon:bow] [Faroese ballad]/[Norse: Heimskringla]

[Faro. Tambar "Stretcher (?)" < tamb "distension", tamba "to stretch"; Icel. þambar gen. of þömb "1. paunch 2. bowstring". *1]
Name of the bow of Einar Tambarskelvir [Faro.] [= Einarr þambar-skęlfir[ON]]. The bow-name, borrowed from Einar's nickname, is apparently a pure invention of the Faroese ballad Ormurin Langi. (The bow is not specifically named as thus in Snorri's Heimskringla).

Finn the Little Finnur hin lítli,
*1 In the legendary history Einarr's byname þambarskelfir is construed "bowstring-shaker" but historically it is "paunch-shaker" whose signficance is lost. See the Gwyn Jones quote below.
