Students will be able to connect the information on nutrition and a creative format using the clip art and text boxes from "Kidspiration"
Recognizing the versatility of computer software in classroom activities
 

Students will receive "worksheets" with a word bank that they will complete
The reading of the worksheets will help assess their reading levels; the selection of words in the word bank will indicate their knowledge of keyboarding
Finishing the sentences will indicate their knowledge of the unit and indicate their level of competence in keyboarding

Students will create a person (real or imaginary) by using clip art and text that explains what foods are healthy and can be eaten in quantity and what foods are not particularly nutritious
Students needed to be comfortable with the "Kidspiration" software and be able to manipulate the clip art and type sentences in the text boxes

Nutrition/Immigration 
(Week 4, 4 Weeks)
Students used "Kidspiration" to complete their "people" from food clip art and used the text boxes to describe what they created

Continue practicing word processing skills using MS Word
Students used a teacher generated worksheet that created an acrostic poem spelling out "Nutrition"
The letters were centered on the page in order to increase the number of words available for the acrostic

Students used a teacher generated worksheet that created an acrostic poem spelling out "Immigration" in order to introduce the new Unit of Inquiry

Students will be able to connect the information on nutrition and a creative format using the clip art and text boxes from "Kidspiration"
Recognizing the versatility of computer software in classroom activities

Students continue to practice word processing skills by typing their Nutrition acrostics
Students will become proficient with word processing and navigating MS word
As students become more familiar with word processing they will begin to recognize its usefulness in classroom and homework activities
Students will be able to connect facts and ideas related to the unit of inquiry with keyboarding and MS word

An acrostic poem using "Immigration" helped to introduce the new unit and reinforce their keyboarding skills

Students logged onto the school network and followed directions to a teacher generated worksheet
This worksheet stated facts about immigration and questions related to immigration
Students were required to re-type the statements and type a sentence in order to answer the questions

Students used the Internet for research on their ancestors' country of origin

 

Students need to practice and improve keyboarding touch typing in order to become comfortable and adept at word processing

The worksheet became an interactive tool that offered facts about immigration as well as requiring students to think about the unit and find answers to the questions

Students will begin to recognize the usefulness of the Internet to research their unit of inquiry

Practice logging onto the school network, the Internet, navigating the web, and finding answers from web sites that are to be recorded on a worksheet for class
 

Completed worksheets indicate how well students can copy information in typewritten form and answer questions, with their own ideas, in typed form

Students will be able to log onto the network, the Internet and answer specific questions using pre-selected web sites

Students will create their own shields, as part of their unit on King Arthur and fairy tales, using "Kidspiration" software, including the free drawing tool and clip art and then describe and explain using text boxes what they have created

 

Students will be able to connect the information on King Arthur and medieval times with a creative format using the clip art and text boxes from "Kidspiration"
Recognizing the versatility of computer software in classroom activities
 

Students will create a shield by using clip art (the free drawing tool) and text
Students needed to be comfortable with the "Kidspiration" software and be able to manipulate the clip art and type sentences in the text boxes.
