M17 "Omega / Swan" Nebula

Constellations:  Scutum, Sagittarius and Serpens Cauda
Location:   Image center is approximately 0.5 degrees SW of M17
 in Sagittarius
RA = 18h20m  Dec = -16d30m  (epoch 2000)
Visual Magnitudes:  M17, M18 and IC4706 are binocular and telescopic
 objects
Emission nebulae are photographic / CCD objects but
  star clusters are visible in binoculars
Angular Dimensions:  Image field is approximately 3 x 5 degrees
Comments:  Dark nebulae B92 and B93 are cataloged in the
  Barnard Dark Cloud Catalog
NGC6603 is embedded in the M24 star cloud

  M17 is an easy object in binoculars as are numerous star clouds but emission nebulae are only faintly visible in medium aperture telescopes under dark skies. A nebula filter helps.
